The Lindy Hop is an American dance which was born in Harlem, New York City, in and has evolved since then with the jazz music of that time. It was very popular during the swing era of the late s and early s. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were popular during its development but is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston. The Savoy Orpheans were a British dance band of the s. They were resident at the Savoy Hotel, London, between and The band was formed by Debroy Somers, an ex-army bandmaster, in Both the Orpheans and the Savoy Havana Band were under the management of Wilfred de Mornys.
